Hannah’s performance centres round the narration of a book she wrote as a 7 year old about an invisible friend she stole from her brother. Interspersed are anecdotes about family, growing up in a backward ‘cold dark hole’ and coming out as gay. Hannah is essentially very funny, oozing in self deprecation with gags about her weight (cellulite is dimples that mean your body is happy!) and being in love with her dog. However I felt that in an attempt to deliver ‘deadpan’ comedy her performance just came across as listless and nonenergetic. Maybe it was the heat - maybe I’m wrong. But maybe she’d be better off being herself.
