Rhona Cameron
Gilded Balloon

*****

Rhona excels herself in outstanding delivery, as the show commences with a voice-over attempting to book a train via automated telephone from Edinburgh Waverley to Kings Cross. Of course the automated computer doesn’t understand what she’s trying to say, and as Rhona curses and screams with frustration, the audience immediately identify with this technologically twisted nightmare scenario! Rhona comes on-stage to discuss more of her bug-bears, which include flip flops (you just can’t have a decent row wearing them!), nut allergies (they don’t exist) and obsession with Fair Trade foods (they’re a symptom of OCD). Rhona’s show is very psych-socially aware, a result of the years of therapy she candidly discusses. One of the main reasons I’m a fan of Rhona’s is that she isn’t scared about talking about her sexuality. While most comediennes will fit in an obligatory sketch about being gay, Rhona centres her show around her no-frills lesbian encounters.
