*****

This young company takes on Jim Cartwright's 3 hour classic drama and produce a one-hour version that has tremendous verve, energy and humour, and embodies the scalding spirit of the original. James Whittle directs (for the first time)and acts as Eddie and Skin-lad. His soliloquies are spell-binding, and he moves between characters with great ease. Ashton Kelly as Scullery is highly effective. Grace Jung and Amy Lomas are excellently comedic and touching as Carol and Louise. The ensemble work is of a high order, there is no weak link, and the audience were alternately gripped and laughing. Do not be put off by the fact that this is a teenage cast. These are performers of real promise who take on mature roles with great conviction. This show is greatly recommended if you want your jaded senses woken up ready for the rest of the night.
